Abstract

How do consumers react to tariff design? Theoretical literature in industrial organization aims at designing tariffs to address economic concerns. However, empirical results show that consumers may not react fully to complex prices, as they are based on the assumption of perfect rationality. This is particularly relevant in public transport, as policy makers aim to increase usage and reduce congestion through pricing strategies. Through a laboratory experiment, this study aims to analyse the trade-off between time and money under different fares. The results of this study will be crucial to inform public transport policy and reduce private car use.
