Summary This presentation focuses on the development and implementation of intellectual property policy in new technologies and its consequences for society. In particular, the author examines the evolution of the legal system in agricultural biotechnology. This is a complex system that can serve as a "model" for understanding the issues and consequences associated with intellectual property policy. This chapter is divided into three parts: first, the author reviews the theoretical foundations on which strategies for defining and implementing an intellectual property right can be based. Second, he presents the evolution of intellectual property in agricultural biotechnologies. Finally, he presents the future challenges of intellectual property due to the development of new technologies and new constraints.
