Summary The back cover states, "The European Data Protection Regulation, adopted on April 27, 2016, and which will be directly applicable in all European Union member states on May 25, 2018, will profoundly change the rules relating to the digital environment of businesses. The new scheme is based on a logic of compliance and responsibility, which may even be joint between data controllers and their processors. It also enshrines new principles such as data protection both at the design stage of a product or service and by default, creates new rights for data subjects (right to be forgotten, right to portability, collective actions, etc.) and increases the level of financial penalties incurred. The protection of personal data is more than ever at the heart of the concerns of private companies, local authorities and associations, which must rethink their data protection compliance policy. These issues are discussed in detail in the second edition of this book with a resolutely practical approach, a true article-by-article commentary of the Regulation, the fruit of 40 years of experience acquired by Lexing Alain Bensoussan Avocats in the field of personal data protection.
